A number of different treatment plans are used. Upon initial diagnosis, the patient usually have chemotherapy using
Carboplatin alone OR Paclitaxel (Taxol) and carboplatin
after surgery for ovarian cancer.

The chemotherapy drugs are injected into one of the veins (given 'intravenously' or IV) so that they can circulate through the blood stream. Chemotherapy treatment is usually given every 3 to 4 weeks. The treatments are usually repeated about 6 times but may be continued for longer. Usually the drugs are given by drip over about 3 hours in the outpatients department. Occasionally, they are given over 24 hours and the patient will need to stay in hospital overnight.

All the chemotherapy drugs mentioned above can cause
Tiredness
Feeling or being sick
A fall in your blood cell counts
Diarrhoea
Loss of appetite
