Risperidone? Anyone know about this drug
My husband started this medicine about 2months ago, it makes him kind of zombie like now that he is on 1mg and he does weird things in his sleep such as moaning, talking, he has weird twitches in his muscles even when not sleeping...and then theres the worst part; he claims it depleated his sex drive. Its the only thing that really has helped his nerves but other than that its got bad s.effects. Anyone on this or knows someone? Recommend it? and What are your/their sideeffects?
Do not click the link of the first persons answer that says this is what your looking for.. Sigh...tired of the people who leave stupid answers and are insensitive....
Now that link was thankfully disabled, thanks, God bless
My husband takes it for anger managment sorry for leaving that detail out

i work with disabled kids and a lot of them take it to relax them to help reduce siezures, reduce irritability in ADHD and in my experience, it only does these things by practically knocking you out so nothng bothers you! No sex drive, no motivation etc its all very common. Why does he take them? If its for anger management or depression (though i doubt the latter) he needs to be re assessed.

I took this drug for a while. I had the same side effects your husband has and some more. I cannot say I would recommend this drug; however, it did work somewhat for me for about a year and a half. Now I'm on abilify so I'm waiting to see how that goes.

I was on Zoloft (Risperidone) for about 3 months due to schizophrenia, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, ever.
I had similar side effects to your husband, odd twitches (dyskensia), no sex drive and I was literally catatonic most of the time laid in bed. When I wasn't in bed I felt like a zombie, just feeling as if I had no purpose in life.
I also had another breakdown after about 4 weeks of taking it, which was one of the main reasons I came off it. The pros did not outweigh the cons for me at all, and I ended up going cold turkey from it (which was HORRENDOUS, and I do not recommend that in the slightest either as I was having ridiculous heart palpitations for weeks and dizzy spells). Risperidone (also known as Zoloft) also made me gain a stupid amount of weight in a small amount of time.
If your husband is still getting such bad side effects, I think it'd be appropriate that you get him switched to another medication.
If he's on the drugs for depression or anxiety though, please consider cognitive or behavioural therapy as medication only hides the symptoms, it doesn't remove the cause.
Best wishes to you both x
