Cutting them in half is safe insofar as they won't blow up in your face, but why would you want to cut them up? You should follow your prescribing doctor's advice.
With any medication, you should follow the instructions in the provided documentation. If the tablets are the white ones with a line across, it is safe to take them as two halves, but if it is a capsule then you must not cut it or pull the two sides apart as this affects the effectiveness of the drug.
Have your girlfriend talk to her doctor, he or she can provide you with the best advice on how to take the drugs if she is having problems.
