Risperidone... anyone had it
I posted questions yesterday regarding medications and my psychiatrist not listening. I have agreed to take the valproate as a mood stabiliser (for bipolar) but instead of just letting me stop quetiapine he has put me on risperidone another antipsychotic.

I knew nothing about this drug and assumed it would be weight neutral, I've since discovered it is not.

Is is worth not taking it and sticking with the sodium valproate (epilim) as a mono therapy?

Since starting the quetiapine my BMI has gone from being within the healthy range to obese (34.5) and my weight is now 214lbs (15stone 4)
My weight has not changed since I stopped all meds, but I do not want to risk gaining through a drug again.

Please no talk about diet and exercise, I am a qualified nutritionist and can assure you my diet has not changed. And i used to be anorexic which makes it worse

heyy i have bipolar 2 i take trileptal and abilify. and the med u r on, i was on too, (respidal or something) it made me gain weight, and ugh! im still losing it.

heres a tip: before taking the meds, look them up on drugs.com or type it in to google.

i refuse to take meds that cause weight gain!!

i was going to take wellbutrin before i found out it can cause seizures, though its rare....
topomax worked for me for awhile, it causes decrease in appetite, and i lost weight.

if ur weight hasn't changed since u stopped takin them, then it was the meds.

like u asked, i wont preach about dieting, but can i make a suggestion?

anorexia wont help i know too well if u dont eat, when you do u'll get fat.

Well I can't help you so much about the meds I don't know much about that but what I can say is really get a new psychiatrist I had one like that before he was an ass and gave me all the wrong meds which made me worse!

Hopefully when you find a good psychiatrist you can trust you will be able to talk with them a qualified professional about this.
