I started taking seroquel about a week ago and I first felt horid but now i'm starting to feel good ...
but I still am having obsesive thoughts on death suicide and negative things towards myself that scare me but they arnt so racing, I would never do them though.I started having these thoughts after going under for surgary. I'm able to sleep and feel more focused now which when I first started taking it I felt the oposite. It's hard to say. Is it normal for me to feel like this or is it just my bipolar. I'm only on a 25 mg dose still but I am known to be hyper sensitive to medications.
The thoughts are intrusive they pop in my head and I cant controll them. I will just be watching tv and the word death pops in my head. I'ts creapy.
I'm not hearing voices or anything it's just uncontrolable thoughts.
So my question is .. is it the med or just me? Or am I over thinking...
I noticed these thoughts come towards the end of every day or when Im tired.
My mother thinks I have been acting more snappy though.

YA Junkie: Thank you for pointing out my post. I was thinking of a different medication. I did mean well, but I feel bad for posting an answer I didn't know anything about and was misleading, especially on a subject like this!

My apologies Lilly, I wish you well!

seroquel made me feel horrible at first too. so so so bad. like a really bad hangover and i was not alive feeling once it does its job which will take usually up to a month or so it will help alot. but like any medication like that it has its side effects. if you feel its not working you may need different medicine or a higher dosage. but i would recommend finding the one the works the best for you bc it really really effects your daily routine and life.

I am sure Julie in the first answer meant well, but seroquel is not an antidepressant. It is an antipsychotic that is usually used for bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and sometimes other psychiatric problems.

As you probably know, people can react to psych meds very differently. I will tell you my story, but it may not apply to you. I suffer from major depression and one of my meds was klonopin. My new shrink did not want me on klonopin and he switched me to seroquel to help me sleep.

My first month on seroquel was pretty good, but my 2nd month was a disaster. First my hips became very stiff and just walking down the street became hard (and I do yoga and stretching almost everyday). Then my ankles and feet swelled up like balloons (edema). In two months, I put on 20 pounds. I felt awful and my shrink switched me back to klonopin.

I hope your experience is better than mine. As I said, people can react very differently to psych meds. I wish you well.
