scared to try seroquel, questions...
I have fibromyalgia, and have a horrible time sleeping (staying asleep to be exact).

I have tried ambien, and ambien cr. the ambien helped knock me out, but not stay asleep. the ambien cr worked well, but my insurance will not cover it, and it's too expensive.

my doctor recently prescribed seroquel, and i am afraid to try it.

i've also tried anti-depressents like amitryptiline, nortryptiline, wellbutrin, zoloft (propably others, just can't remember them), and had horrible side effects from them... extreme agitation, anger, anxiety, racy heart, racy thoughts, couldn't sleep at all.

will seroquel cause these types of side effects? i'm extremely hesitant to try it, because i do not want to feel like i have on the other meds.

can anyone tell me a little bit about it?

Seroquel has multiple side effects, some of them common, a few of them serious and life-threatening. However, should the doctor's prescription be followed, then the side effects are minimized.

The use of Seroquel for sleeping disorders is what we can call "off-label" since this is not the primary use of the drug, however, since it can help patients sleep, this has been used for that purpose as well.

Common side effects include weight gain[21], constipation, headache and dry mouth. Six to seven percent of patients may experience tachycardia.

my experience with seroquel
From my experience, I have seen seroquel prescribed only as a sleep aid, and mostly to recovering addicts, believe it or not. Try not to get turned off by the label of anti psychotic, or anything like that, and try a 25mg pill one night if your doctor prescribes it. Now, they will most likely start you on a dose of 25mgs per night for sleep, but keep in mind, these pills come in up to 300mgs. In my experience, as far as a solid nights sleep is concerned, a single little 25mg seroquel has always worked better than any hypnotic (lunesta, ambien, imovane etc..), or benzo (valium, xanax, halcion) ive ever tried. Ive found myself to be in REM sleep faster, and longer on seroquel, and with less of a residual feeling, or hangover, than other things I could have taken for the same situation. The only problem I found is that tolerance seemed to develop a little faster than with other substances in similar categories.
