My Psych doctor has me on Seroquel. I take 600mg everynight before bed. It cost me 119.00 dollars for 60 pills. I get that money back though. Thank god its all covered in Canada.

Yes you can but you also cannot have any sort of health insurance. I was on that program when I lwas unemployed and it really saved me.

Just a thought here but why not hit you're physician up for samples? He/she may not be able to come through for you each and every month but I'd certainly inquire nevertheless. They might be able to hold you samples back after a visit from the pharmaceutical rep---especially if they're aware of your inability to afford the medication.

You'd be SHOCKED at the amount of samples physicians stock. Believe me, I know first hand!

I wonder what medication would work better for sleep... Seroquel or Trazadone?? Anyone have any ideas.

I have recently been diagnosed with bipolar and have been described numerous mood stabalizers which have done nothing for my mental health but make me feel completely I'll and unable to function day to day. I have decided to self medicate with benzos which requires strict personal control, otherwise it seems to defeat the purpose, I have made it my personal mission to educate myself in a variety of areas ie psychology/psychiatry/pharmacology and the more I read the more I am apposed to the use of mood stabilizer medication to treat the so called (chemical imbalance). However, I in no way would try to discourage the same attitude on those who find these medications of some benefit. I find it very frustrating when I read posts from patients in other countries who have to pay an obscene amount of money for a medication they feel is beneficial to their well being when (being from the UK) they try to ram them down your throat for free. I do however wonder that if the medications where free rather than sought after because of the high value that pharmaceutical companies put on them.
I would love to hear other peoples thoughts and experiences!

You are comparing apples and oranges as I am prescribed both. Obviously seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic while trazodone is a tricyclic antidepressant. Trazodone vs seroquel for sleep is like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

Trazadone is a little easier on me the next day.
I dislike them both strongly as sleep is side effect of med and not primary indicator for taking.
However, I agree that letting the Dr know when in the office they may direct you towards something they can at least get you samples to get you started.

Also, the companies are decent to work with.
Again, if you can find a kind nurse that is often your best friend and avenue to quicker communication with Dr and often I will check with the nurses and ask straight up." who is the best Dr here?"

They know and often times they will tell you. Worst you get is no!

Funny thing, I had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday afternoon which I was held up in the waiting room due to an Astra-Zeneca drug rep taking up my appointment time doling out her info and Seroquel XR samples, boxes and boxes of it. These guys/gals (physicians) have "drug rooms" where they stock their samples and I personally think a person who needs such an expensive medication would be crazy NOT to ask their physician for samples. I mean, that's what their given out for by the reps. I think a lot of doctor's are lazy and don't just offer their patients or forget they may have samples to distribute. The take home message: please ask and keep on your doctor/doctor's staff about the sample availability of an expensive drug. You might have to stay on their a**, but so what? It can and will save you money outright and you might just be surprised. Can't stress this method of obtaining samples enough to people.

If the physician's fall for prescribing the "latest and greatest" in patented medications to their patients which are sky high, they've got access to samples. Their office can even contact the drug rep directly and request them personally for indigent/needy patients. The only thing to remember...you've got to ask and there's certainly NO shame in that!
