Tamiflu. What does it do
Does the drug prevent you from catching Swine Flu or does it just help those who already have it to recover?

people who suspect having symptoms of swine flu are not advised to do self medication through tamiflu because some symptoms of swine flu are common to other signs of infection and taking tamiflu when you are not diagnose to have the virus would make your body react developing a 'resistance' so by the time you are positive of the swine flu, your body does not react to the drug--tamiflu anymore.

I think the government is asking people not to take it unless they are confirmed to have swine flu. The reason, if people take it without really being sick, the virus can develop immunity the drug. That's what is happening with certain antibiotics because doctors prescribe them to people who don't really need them -- they are becoming less effective.

But apparently Tamiflu can treat sick people and keep their symptoms at bay. It will not cure or eliminate the flu, but it can stop the symptoms that can kill you.
