Default ER luminal protein or ER membrane protein

What sequence differences in different proteins will determine whether they will be ER luminal protein or ER membrane protein? Will they become secreted outside of the cell or become plasma membrane proteins if they are eventually targeted to the plasma membrane?

Your question may need a more detailed explanation from a genetic expert since you are dealing with genes and sequences.

You may want to check this site out for more information.

    Hope this helps.
