Default asked for Nardil today, no go with psych

So I've taken all the bouts of SSRI's and today I asked for Nardil even telling the doc I know the MAOI restrictions, but he only wanted to redo SSRI's. Continued asking about TCA's and he still wanted to go with an SSRI. Screw that, that was a hell of a year a 4 months to taper paxil off. I think I could stop Klonopin easier. The reason I was asking is for Depression/Anxiety and this was the #1 social phobia killer before all these newer snris and stuff came around.

I'm sorry to hear that. The only antidepressant I've been prescribed is zoloft it worked, but i felt tired and some loss of motivation. Because i don't have have any money, i cant afford a psychiatrist (my insurance pays for half if I spend over 1000 dollars). I ordered selegiline (a maoi) from inhousepharmacy on Dec 6 i got it on the 13th. Im on 25 mg a day so far and it's i can tell a difference; I feel less depressed, more clear headed, and ADD symptoms are improved, which i take 40mg of adderall for. It hasn't helped with social anxiety, but it may given more time and a higher dose (I've read reports on dr-bob.org of people going up to 40mg). If i get a job, I'll probably see a psychiatrist and maybe get a SNRI. I spent hours trying to find a pharmacy that will send a MAOI without a prescription, so far i have had no luck.

Man I am not familiar with or have ever taken a SSRI but their side effects and hearing the hellacious times people had with coming off them scares the poo out of me.....I would never take any but I understand how much they are pushed on patients by docs and I know the miserable state depression can leave a person in, I do not blame anyone for trying anything to help get them out of that kind of funk. I wish docs were more willing to use some other type of med though, seems SSRI's only create new problems for people with depression. Good luck my friend and I hope all works out for the best, happy holidays.

i have been taking all kinds if anti-depression drugs for about 20 yrs.coming off paxil was a bitch.over the years i have had paxil, lexapro, siniquan, prozac and many others i can't remember.i am currently taking zoloft and serequel.they work ok for me.drs kind of use you as a guinny pig for new and different meds.i was even told thay really don't know all the complexities of the mind.it is mostly a crap shoot with the meds till they find one that works for you.i find the side effects are not that bad.you just have to weigh how you feel with or without them as far as your depression is.

my sister took nardil in the early 80s and she soon fell off the deep end...shock therapy and all that. she was a government lawyer and has been on disability ever since. she blames the nardil...all i can say it was hard to witness.

I think selegiline in small (to c 10 mg/day) doses is a selective inhibitor MAO-B, in big (above 10 mg/day) is also braking MAO-A.
There is no interaction with the food in low doses, therefore in my opinion is safer then nardil.
I use selegiline and I think it is good but I take one quarter of 5 mg tablet. It is good for motivation and the depressive mood and thoughts.
As a result of the inhibition Mao is growing up level monoamin (of serotonin, noradrenaline, dopamine, tryptamine, histamine, melatonin, trace amines - among others fenetyloaminy) in the nervous system what is being combined with the antidepressant effect of the medicine.
Using selegiline must remember about serotonin toxicity when combined with serotonergics such as SSRIs.
