enough for a colchicine overdose
my mom told me today that she felt a gout attack coming on...so over the weekend she took a "heavy dose of my medicine", before finding out how much i mentioned that it is an easy med to od on and to be careful..she mentioned then that she felt weak afterward...turns out she took at least 11 .6 mg tabs of colchicine in about three days. i want her to go to the emergency room, but she insists she is fine. am i over reacting?
btw, i am 28 years old, and older doesn't equate to more knowledgeable.

For acute gouty arthritis, a patient may take an initial dose of 1.2 mg equivalent, then 1-2 unit of cochicine tablet/granule every hour/2 hours until pain is relieved or until diarrhea ensues.

As to whether your mom had an overdose, I couldn't really tell with your post. It's not clear whether she took 11.6mg each day for 3 days or that was the collective amount she took in a span of 3 days. If that's what she collectively took in 3 days, she'll be fine---just watch for early signs of toxicity like nausea, vomiting & diarrhea.

But as for the weakness she is experiencing, you might want to convince her to go to the ER just to be sure.
