why did a hospital not ask me to stop taking allopurinol before surgery
I am having hip surgery in a few weeks time and was told to stop taking aspirin 10 days before the op but the hospital did not ask me to stop taking allopurinol?
You were asked to withdraw from aspirin since it can cause bleeding, thus it complicates the intended surgery. Allopurinol won't affect the surgery process. If ever there are minor effects but it's not serious enough for the patient to be asked to stop taking the drug before surgery.
