    Default Payment options?

hi was wondering what aussies are doing for payment options - not finding a lot of IOPs that take money orders. Are these guys really to be trusted with credit cards? I've used paypal in the past and so not really confident when I don't see that option. Does the visa logo /verisign etc guarantee any degree of security? Hope this doesn't sound like a silly question.

I suppose it depends which IOPs you are using, your best bet is to work off posts of people making purchases. I myself have used my credit card, but you take risks whenever you buy things online.

Just stick to what IOP is working for others and use their pay methods, usually WU or MG. CC for non controlled but check what others do on the relevant thread.

Aus post are now doing prepaid Visa, just make sure you can use it online for OS payments. There are others.

Thanks for all the replies on this thread and my other one too - (sorry I didn't mean to post two threads, there was a delay probably due to the site being down for a bit and my first post got lost, therefore I posted another one, then the first one finally showed appeared).

I have used credit card twice and have not been burned.

A credit card merchant facility option is somewhat reassuring to me!

It is not a free service for the seller.

Just being available to pay this way, I find somewhat inherently credible.

This is just my opinion though!

I use a greendot and my regular Visa BUT I check
my balance online daily for any fraudulent activity.
If you catch it quick enough, it's much easier to deal with.

I've used CC, MoneyGram, and Western Union. Prefer MG over WU in my experiences so far (always seem to have to fill out a form with WU, whereas the MG agent i go to just asks me the questions and types answers into his computer).

you can buy prepayed visa now... probably the best way to go. you can put $20-$1000 on it when you "load" it up.. check it out.

I've looked into those but they are filled with filler fees, monthly fees, etc. Really shady... Is there a prepaid visa that doesn't have any fees?

check out the ones at our common friendly post office wink wink.
the fees are pretty cheap considering how easy it makes buying online with no risk of loosing large amounts of $$$ from dodgy transactions being made after your purchase.
after buying the card (for $6-$7) each transaction you make on it costs 10 cents. there is a foreign corrency conversion of 3% of your spend. it dosent have monthy fees or charge you anything to re load. ****... someone would think ive got shares in it with the rap im giving it

Sadly it appears your post office is better than mine. Where I live these are the charges:

    Service fees* Cost
    Activation (one-time fee) $15
    Monthly service fee $3**
    Reload fee $3
    ------------------------------

    Any other recommendations?

unfortuanlty no.... if you do an online search im sure you will be able to compare all the different CC options... but prepayed CC was the only suggestion i was going to make. at the end of the day even with the fees it isnt that bad an option. especially if they only take visa and not money orders... plus money orders are alot harder to get refunded
    good luck mate.

Woolworths have a VISA where I am pretty sure the only fee is the initial 2 or 3 bucks and you can only load it once with max $500 or something. Just get one for the amount of your purchase and bin it when done, easy.

I agree with auskick, plus depending on where you are WU is less convenient that just entering CC numbers and ordering something.

I have now done several WU & MG transactions with a few different IOPs (who I first researched and found positive feedback that they were legit operators on PR, and another related forum) with no payment related issues encountered so far.

I always use a WU or MG agent (lucky to have several in or near my suburb) never their online websites (by recommendation of another thread here on PR).

And my transactions are always small-ish (usually under $300) - never more than i can afford to lose should I be unfortunate enough to run into a payment issue with an IOP or (more likely) have my purchase seized by the doggedly dedicated and enthusiastic men and women protecting our borders at Aus Customs & Quarantine (I love & respect the work you guys do, really, just please don't seize my shit).

Here is the card from Woolies I was referring to, it is MasterCard not Visa
    https://www.everydaymoney.com.au/edm...FTEI0VEwwMDY3/
Basically they charge you an initial $2.95 for the card then you load it with any amount up to $1000 and it can not be reloaded. They charge 2.5% of AUD amount for over seas transactions but no other transaction fees.
They have a CCV number on the back and I just use the name: Everyday Money, when entering the name of the card holder for transactions.

Tried to order provigil online via a recommended website and opted to pay via Visa. Had a phone call back to confirm details, no probs but then recieved another call saying card provider refused transaction and had to call Visa to enable it.

Being new to this thought I'd post the question if this is normal and if I should call Visa to allow payment?

The online pharmacy in question has a 3and 1/2 star rating.

Also, my apologises if not correct thread and please redirect me if you think another is more suitable.
