What kind of side effects does ambien have
My moms been taking it for a while now and she acts really strange. Its like shes drunk or something.
She drinks lots of wine with it. And does not remeber hardly anything in the morning. Shes taken it for so long that she can't switch to something with a lesser effect.

You are supose to take it and go to bed, many decide to stay awake and fight the sleep, so they can get a buzz...not a good thing. My dad used it and had no problems, but he went to bed right away.

I had to quit taking it. I would wake up in the store, in the kitchen... Like sleep walking, but worse.

Usually depends on the person as to what side effects a medicine can have on you.

Some side effects of this particular drug are:

* Daytime drowsiness
* Dizziness
* Diarrhea
* Difficulty with coordination
* Lightheadedness
* Dry mouth
* Allergic reaction
* Heart palpitations
* Tiredness
* Inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis)
* Unexplained rash
* Abnormal dreams.

Which totally explain the drunk way shes acting. You might want to talk to her about getting a lesser drug. I take Tylenol pm and it works very well for me.

How is she acting Strange? Because one Uncommon side effect is: daytime drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, feeling "drugged" or light-headed;
http://www.drugs.com/ambien.html

Zolpidem is the Chemical name for Ambien.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zolpidem

There is now Ambien CR, if she has switched to this form from taking Ambien (normal) she can have these side effects too. Its just just body getting used to the other drug.
http://www.ambiencr.com/using-ambien/ambien-cr-side-effects.aspx

Liquor (any kind) and Ambien is a Bad combo, make sure she not drinking.

I would ask her and express your concern for her, it sounds like you might be scared, you might want to tell her this too?

If she Becomes unconscious, you need to call 9-1-1

Best Wish's,
Nolwe

She's abusing it.
If you take Ambien and don't go right to bed, you will experience very strange side effects.
My mom used to do this. Basically she would take it and not go to bed, and then she would come up to talk to me and be very chatty. She would stay up for hours with (strangely) a good amount of energy. She would be clumsy, and would often not be able to walk straight. She would also slur her words. She would ALSO tell me basically anything--some things that were kind of inappropriate.
And then she wouldn't remember any of it (or most of it) the next morning.
It's kind of...fun for some people to do this. It's called 'Ambo-tripping.' Ambien is more addictive than people think because of these side effects.
Talk to your mom about your concerns.

You ever see that episode of the Simpsons where homer takes napien(ambien)? Well it is something like that.
Don't worry your mom is fine.
