What you need to know about beta blockers in this case is that there are two basic types: cardio-selective, and non-cardioselective. The beta blocker given to help stage fright is the non-cardioselective type (like propranolol) because it acts on beta receptors everywhere and not just on the heart and vessels (like atenolol).
It should work on moderate cases as well. What it will not do, is take away the fear.
