A beta-blocker (metoprolol tartrate) question
I'm 33, overweight, african american female and live a very stressful life. i went to the er on thursday july 9. my blood pressure was high so he prescribed me metoprolol tartrate; he only prescribed me a 30 day supply and I only take one a day; no refills. after doing some research i find out that i must be weened off of this medicine instead of just stopping. i have no medical insurance and since he only gave me a 30 day supply; what would you do? i get paid next friday and i am going to see can a doctor see me. I also heard that just taking 25mg a day of this pill; I probably won't need to be weened off. Another question. I also have bad allergies; what o-t-c allergy medicine can I take with this pill? Thanks and sorry if any confusion.

Usually, they limit the number of days that you take metoprolol to check if it works, or so the body will not be dependent on it. It is not a cure for high blood pressure but rather a medication that just can help bring it low. It is a good thing that you will see a doctor again so he can determine if you will still need to take the medication or your blood pressure in under control at the moment.

You need to be weaned off if your dosage is high and you have been taking it for a long time. However, 30 days at a pill a day is minimal therefore safe to stop.

On an allergy medication, you may need to ask a doctor on what is best.

Hope this helps.
