can I up my propranolol dosage

I take 40mg a day ( 40mg tablet once daily ) for a head tremor and anxiety I am finding that it isn't working as well at the moment, and I am still shaking.
would it matter if I started taking 2 tablets a day instead - so that'd be 40mg twice daily so 80mg.
Would this make any difference to me at all? ... I have heard some people take 40mg 3 times a day for anxiety.
Don't give me some stupid answer like " ask your doctor "
I'm asking YOU if it could have some side effects as I have heard some people taking triple my dose who are fine..

For the treatment of tremors, doses range from 20 to 160 mg per day administered in two or three divided doses.

Propranolol should be started at 40 mg twice daily for the treatment of essential tremor. The dosage may gradually be increased to 120 mg/day to 320 mg/day in once-daily or divided doses. Usually, you start with the minimum dose then the doctor gradually increases it, depending on the side effects you experienced with the minimum dose. Of course it is expected that the higher the dose you are taking, the higher the chances you'll get the side effects or such effects get worse.
