Can you take calcium channel blockers and beta blockers at the same time for migraine prevention
I currently take Verapamil (calcium channel blocker) for migraine prevention. It has worked some, but I'm at the full dose and it isn't enough (I still get daily migraine symptoms if not full on migraines).

Can I take a beta blocker at the same time? Or will I need to get off the calcium channel blocker first? Obvoiusly I'll talk to my doctor about it as well . . . just wondering what everyone else knows about it. Thanks.

It is not advisable to take 2 types of antihypertensive drugs such as Verapamil and a beta blocker at the same time. Doing so would put you at risk for hypotension and other adverse effects. If you have been taking Calcium channel blockers for a long time, you can't just stop taking them all of a sudden. Yes, you have to come off from verapamil first before taking another drug for you migraine but your doctor should provide you with instructions on how to do so.
