Question Why does Propranolol block the effects of Adderall? And how long does Propranolol stay in your system after you stop taking it.

Why does Propranolol block the effects of Adderall? And how long does Propranolol stay in your system after you stop taking it.

I started taking Adderall to help me focus in school. I was diagnosed with AD/HD when I was a kid. I used to take ritalin but I stopped cause it made me feel way too jittery, Adderall is WAY smoother & better. The Adderall that I started to take a month or so ago worked exceptionally well. My productivity, concentration, comprehension increased dramatically. My grades shot up. I was concerned with the very slight shakyness Adderall was causing at 20 & 25 mg. So I asked my doctor for Propranalol in the lowest possible dose. 10mg. I took it for only 3 days and doubled up on a couple of doses to try and get results to minimize the slight shakiness.

The Propranolol took about 3 days(friday) for the medicine to start working. (so given this info, can you determine how long it would take to get out of my system?) The Propranolol continued to work Sat & Sunday to even though my last dose was Friday morning, but it also continues to BLOCK my Adderall from working. I NEED the Adderall to work! For my grades, it helps me study b/c I have ADHD.

However as soon as the beta-blocker started working on day 2 & 3 I noticed I could not feel the Aderall working. I immediatly stopped taking the Propranolol because the Adderall and my grades are more important. My productivity, concentration, & comprehension dropped right along side the effectiveness of the Adderall. Today is Monday at 9:10am and I my last dose of the beta-blocker was Friday morning at 10:30am 20mg, prior to that was 10mg the night before, 20mg the previous day, and 10mg the day before that. When will the Propranolol be out of my system? How long does it take for Propranolol to get out of my system? I believe it is blocking my aphetamine receptors and that is a problem. I neen my Adderall to work again, SOON. I have an History exam next week, and a Biology exam the week after. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

Thanks, and no I do not use any illegal drugs nor do I drink alcohol, I haven't drank any alcohol in 5 1/2 months. Thanks.

Propranolol blocks certain adrenaline receptors, while Dextroamphetamine (Adderall) works by releasing adrenaline and dopamine.

Propranolol has a half-life of 3-4 hours, i.e. after 3-4 hours, half of it is metabolized. However, some of its metabolites have an even longer half-life of about 7 hours. Anyways, if you took your last dose of propranolol 3 days ago, it should be eliminated by now.

That explains why the Adderall stopped working when I added Propranolol, but according to what you say the Adderall should be working by now. So that doesn't explain why the Adderall is not really working like it was before.

I couldn't really feel the Adderall working today and my last dose of Propranolol(beta-blocker) was Friday morning.

If it took 3 days to get into my system then could it take longer than 3 days to exit my system COMPLETELY????

    ?????????????????????????????????

Is there any reason why the Propranolol would not be out of my system by now??????

I do not believe it is propanolol's fault.
I have taken it with Ritalin some times. It does actually counter some of the worst effects of stimulants, such as tachycardia, sweating, etc. Despite the myth that it's not a good idea to mix beta-blockers with stimulants, scientific research has proved it actually does reduce mortality from stimulant overdose.

You probably have developed tolerance to Adderall and may need to increase the dosage.
