Marinol, a medical form of (delta-9 THC) causes hypotension (a decrease in blood pressure). One way the body compensates for THC-induced hypotension is by increasing the production of catecholamines (e.g. adrenaline) which increases the heart rate. Adrenaline has its effect by binding to beta adrenergic receptors. Propranolol is a "beta blocker."
What this all means is that if you smoke marijuana and take a beta-blocker, you risk having a blood pressure low enough to cause you to faint, or worse, to decrease the blood supply to your brain causing brain damage and sometimes death.
