Nightmare dreams from taking Lopressor Beta blocker for my heart, what should i do
im 19 years old. I take Lopressor daily since i was 16 then stoped then now just contiuned due to heart problems. My doctor gave me 3 months worth prescription again i have been taking it but i get bad nightmares. I get nightmares of my father ( past away ). and i hate it.. My doctor says it shouldnt happen all the time but he said i need to take lopressor. Has anyone else had this problem? what can i do about it?
metropolol (Lopressor, Toprol) has numerous side effects, including nightmares. There's also this thing called "beta blocker blues" characterized by mood swings, depression, memory loss, etc. you can ask your doctor for alternatives to this drug.
I took Toprol XL (Metoprolol) for 8 years and didn't have any nightmares at all. Now I have been switched to Toprol Tartrate (Lopressor) and have them all of the time. Very vivid and bizzare dreams. I cannot go back to the XL because the Generic is currently not being manufactured and the Generic of Lopressor is. If you can afford it you may want to ask for the "XL" version and see if the slower metabolizing version helps.
