Albuterol and tremors
I just picked up my new prescriptions for albuterol (proventil) and Singulair from the pharmacy, took them, and have some serious tremors. I went to the doctor with complaints of severe allergies, wheezing, chest congestion, and shortness of breath and was prescribed these. Are shakes normal from 2 puffs of albuterol? I took one 10mg tablet of singulair and 2 puffs of proventil about 20 minutes ago. What can I expect on these medications? I am supposed to take one singular at same time per day, and 2 puffs of proventil about every 4-6 hours or when seriously short of breath. I am 24, in good health, other than these terrible allergies. Thanks for your advice!

Yeah, tremors are common with albuterol. Just do one puff next time. Singular and albuterol have no interactions. If you still get the tremors with one puff than just keep it for emergencies.

Albuterol can cause some tremor is all users. The degree of the tremor varies with use and from person to person. The tremor itself is not dangerous, but can certainly be bothersome. It usually subsides to some extent as the medicine wears off. No studies have shown that tremors continue after the use of these medicines is stopped. So tremors are not a long-term effect of albuterol.

Ok. I am going to try to better explain your meds to you.

Singulair is a preventative medicine. It is taken in order to prevent your asthma symptoms.

Albuterol is a rescue inhaler and should only be used when you exeperience an asthma attack.

You should not take the 2 together. That would only heighten the side effects. The 4-6 hours means that you can take the inhaler 4-6 hours after you initially took it for a previous attack. What I mean by this, is that let say you have an asthma attack at 10 am. You then take the albuterol inhaler. You experience another attack at 3pm. You can then take it again. You probably should not be taking the albuterol inahler every 4-6 hours just because. You should only use it when you have an asthma attack, that is why it is called a rescue inhaler. You are on a preventative medicine already so your asthma attacks should be few and far in between.

When I started the Combivent I asked the same question and got "rinse your mouth out immediately" but that didn't help with the tremors. That is one of the side effects of the Albuterol stuff. You will just have to live with it the same as I do. It does get a bit better the more of it you take. But it is still very aggravating to have to live with shaking hot coffee all over oneself every morning.

It sure makes you limit the puffs of the stuff! and not take more of it than you absolutely must have.

I am supposed to have 2 puffs every 4 to 6 hours or as needed. I usually do only one puff to see if that won't work, then an hour later do another if needed.

That's a common side effect of Albuterol.
