Could my inhaler, Proventil, for asthma, be addictive
Could it become addictive, like a nasal spray?

no. Now in the past the propellant used in these types of inhalers actually promoted air way inflammation.

Let me tell you a true story.

When antihistamines first became available without a prescription in the late 60's or early 70's the box warned not to be used by asthmatics.

But, in the early 1990's when the FDA was doing a review of OTC labeling they could not find any justification in the literature for this statement. They then asked the drug companies that had put this warning on their labeling for the reason. The drug companies had no explanation.

The central problem with asthma is inflammation, inflammation that is very much the product of the effects of histamine release.

It is highly likely the true reason this warning was put on the box was it would hurt sales of asthma related products to let people with asthma find out on their own how daily use of antihistamines affected asthma. No studies, to my knowledge, to determine whether antihistamines would decrease the incidence of asthma attacks has been done.
