Asthma. medicines aren't working. Serevent and Pulmicort
I'm 17 years old with chronic asthma & weigh123 lbs. I've been on Serevent for the past 4 weeks but its hardly helped. Last November I was on Pulimcort for 2 1/2 months but it didn't help much either. Now my doctor is putting me back on Pulmicort (and continuing the Servent). Is this going to work? If Serevent isn't working & Pulmicort didn't help before, can they work together somehow since they dont work individually? Also, I have an Albuterol (rescue) inhaler for quick relief. It says that I can take it up to 4 times a day every 4-6hrs. How close together can I take doses? If I take it & then an hour & a half later I'm short of breath and wheezing can I take it again? I have only been on Pulmicort again for 2 days now & I know that it usually takes about 2 weeks or more to see any improvement.
I used to run track. As a freshman, I was good enough to be put on two relays with seniors. I'm sitll in ok shape but i can't even run a 400m w/out be short of breath and wheezing

My daughter is asthmatic, she used to be on your medication before but it did not work very well. Now she takes seretide 125mgs 2 puffs twice a day and a tablet of singulair 10mg at night before going to bed, her asthma is more controlled now. What you should do before running take a few puffs of ventolin to open your airways. My daughter was recommended this by her doctor. Also have you had any allergy testing? My daughter had this test and at least we know apart from her asthma what she's allergic to for eg: birds, dogs, cats and birds. I think you should go and see your doctor and tell him how you feel. He is he best person to guide you. Good Luck

If i were you i would get put on the Cingluar pill and the Advair diskus. I us to take both of them together and i rarely ever used my albuetrol quick acting inhalor. It is very expensive and you will probably need to have insurance to get them. I don't have insurance so i cant afford it any more.

Ask your doctor about singulair or accolate. I currently take singulair and I've not had to take steroids since I started it six years ago. My use of the rescue inhaler (Maxair) is very minimal now as well.

I'm on Spriva and asmenex, it's been several months since I had to use albuterol

Just be careful with mixing, even Drs don't always read the "overdose" panel.

Overdose can be high/low blood pressure. Rapid heart beat and a whole bunch of other crap.

When my asthma got really bad my Dr. put me on singular and advair. If these two medicines you were taking did not work apart talk to your Dr. about trying something else or ask how they work better together. Remember your Dr. works for you not the other way around and you should always address any questions or concerns you have to your Dr. so that you can and do receive the correct treatment.

I have struggled with chronic asthma my whole life, I am 33 now. I spent my childhood and teenage years taking prednisone just so I could breath. My Doctor tried everything to get me off steroids. After my daughter was born, I started taking Advair, it is the greatest. I no longer take steriods and I feel great. Talk to your doctor about Advair.
