DENTISTS ONLY...curious about epinephrine sensitivity.
1) If dental injections w/ epinephrine make the heart race for 5-10 minutes after injection---is it automatically out as an option for anesthesia? My heart races with epinephrine, but I thought that was a "normal" response- I can't stand that racing feeling. I don't respond very well to non-epi, it takes several injections, & I never feel completely numb. I really dislike dental work now, because I don't get that profound anesthesia!
Don't worry, I'm not using this site as my sole medical advice, just curious. I tend to be an anxious person, I have a history of PVC's, but no other heart or health conditions. Is epinephrine really something to rule out, due to heart racing, or is that just expected?
2) I read a comment about anesthesia, & it sounds like even those people who are sensitive to epi, won't be on injections of epi to the upper teeth? They just have to worry about the lower teeth (mandibular blocks) because of the huge blood vessel. Refresh my memory please.
