I was put on Ventolin for shortness of breath, how long does it take to work?

I went to the Dr.s today for shortness of breath. The Dr said I have allergies (news to me, really). So she gave me a nasal spray at a Ventolin inhaler. When I first took the inhaler nothing seemed to change much so I took a nap. When I woke up I was breathing easier (I took the inhaler at 1 then woke up at 3). So around five o'clock i took the inhaler again. I feel like I'm not getting enough air again. I don't know if sleeping helped or if it was the medicine.

Does anyone take Ventolin for allergies? Is it supposed to work immediately or will it take me a day or so of taking the inhaler for it to work fully? Any experience with this anyone?

Ventolin inhaler starts produce significant effect after approximately 5 mins from inhalation & can last up to 6 hours.
