While that is an interesting read, are there any books written by a chronic pain sufferer who goes through a rigamaroll to get proper treatment and succeed. I mostly interested for my mother but Id like to prepare myself as well.

Default I have been on long acting opiods for 10yrs.

I read the article and can say I have a few problems with the statistics, but that's just me. Anyway, I have been on long acting morphine and it caused nausea and constipation besides headaches that were unbearable. Oxycotin did nothing and caused side effects that were uncomfortable.

Now I am 57, and have been on the fentanyl trandermal patch for 5 yrs and can deal with the restrictions for background pain relief. I can't get overheated and must deal with some redness and irritation from the patch. I have never been to the emergency room during this treatment. The Dr has given me 10/325 percocets for breakthru pain. The duo works fine for now.

I have ddd of the cervical and thorasic spine, osteoarthritis, migraines, and radiculapathy. He now writes the diagosis on scripts as chronic pain syndrome instead of writing all of my problems. (I don't like it.)

Long acting pk are in your future as you age and chronic pain continues. I have intractable chronic pain meaning nothing can be done to stop it. I do use alternative treatments as allowed. My yoga was cut off recently because of the radiculapathy and osteoporosis. No more adjustments just hot rock massage when affordable. Meditation and aromatherapy is okay.

I'll stop now that I'm getting bored with myself.

@debbrad I have the same issue with oxycotin..it barely does anything for me other than making me tired. I also feel very tired the next morning and look pale and sickly this dosent happen to me with other pain meds.

@Jhon,isn't it strange how folks talk about oxycotin like it's all that and more! I forgot that I tried methadone for about 2 months and it nearly drove me crazier than I am normally.

Great article. I very much enjoy reading anything that will educate me on chronic pain and opiates. I just feel that the information I have the more educated decision I can make on my health and well-being.
I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions
