Default My 6 year old son wants to visit Grandma

Sometimes I think that my pain doesn't get in anyone's way, then it hits me like a freight train. My boy has been wanting to visit my mom for three days now, which is 60 miles away, and all I can tell him is that I'm not feeling well today. I don't know what else to say....

I can relate. My worst thing is I can't take my kids to amusement parks since I can't really walk around them (I'm good for about 50 yards or so and then I gotta sit). I would love to be more active with them but its just not in the cards.

I try to make up for it by spoiling them terribly. Probably not the best thing either....

Yep,I spoil mine too! lol,no,its not the best option, but I think they know we really love them at heart... I'm guessing eventually they will find ways to help me get around to doing things again....just don't want to wait until their 15 or 16

    Default @needanarthoscope, whew that's a long handle!

I would asume that you've got knee problems or joint problems elsewhere. Does your mom understand what you are going through right now? Sorry if I'm nosey but it sometimes helps to give advice if you get the full story. And I know how hard it is to talk about your chronic pain. I feel like I'm even boring myself talking about mine.

Your son is six and it's the best time for kids to be with their grandparents. Later, when he is in his preteens to teens he won't want to be away from his own world to go see them. My son hated seeing or staying with his grandma after about eleven without taking a friend to play with cause it was boring over there. This is their best time to be together. Time flies so fast with kids.

Maybe you could work out a weekend visit with Grandma. You could arrange to take him on Friday and maybe Grandma could bring him back on Sunday and visit with you. You could rest up and relax for a couple of nights and your son and mom would be so happy for their time. then you could get time with your mom for some love for you. Or, both of you could spend a weekend with Grandma and she could spoil you both rotten!

When I had my first knee injury and subsiquent arthoscopy, my Dad had my kids 12 hrs away in Olk having the time of their lives on his farm. It sure helped those first days before and after. The bad part was my DH had to drive up and pick them up alone cause I was in no shape to travel that far with my leg elevated and walking on crutches. But I got a whole week off!

So, maybe you and your family can work something out and everybody wins a little.

    Peace and less pain,
    Deb

@debbrad ..... yep,its my knees. Too many long hours laying tile and flooring. If I knew what I knew now about how I was damaging my knees ,maybe I would have done things differently..2 previous arthroscopies.. and a new radial tear. I talked to my boy about setting something up for next weekend. My mom's is cool with it as long as I drive him there. I have another boy(5) but he hates sleepovers,so I wouldn't get much rest, but thats ok.. A little one on one time is good. It is hard to talk about pain,to anyone. but thanks for the feedback,I felt a little better that someone else understands..
    Thanks,Ann

I hear you. I worked construction as a stone mason from 18-30 before I went back to school. That was years ago now, and my lungs are ****ed. Because I wear a tie now, its like those former years never happened. Except to my lungs.

u lay tiles and flooring? i saw or knew a guy whom did that. think it was wrecking up his back also. wow, hard job.

nothing else to add, but, i try to understand. we all do. cuz the outside world, they don't get us. and, it would take too long to explain it to them. and, they would find it hard to believe that we r actual chronic pain or anxiety patients, and that we get labeled , r dubious about doctor visits, and, that we r supposed to feel wrong.

for continuing the care doctors started. for having real pain. real issues.

just a good luck and keep u in prayer. that is hard work on a body.
