Oxy makes me feel very loaded for lack of a better word; effective at numbing mind so less noticeable of pain. Hydrocodone is like a step down from that; I can function while taking vicodin or norco, if i need to, but am less bothered by pain. Hydromorphone, (dilaudid), made me feel less pain in a better way then oxy, but I was more able to have a conversation.
The ceiling on how much hydromorphone I took never seemed to be reached. If I took a lot (still within prescripted measures) I would basically just get very sleepy, happy, etc, and go to sleep. It is very powerful; this is all completely subjective, but I would say that the dosing was more linear; I hurt, so I took another. Still hurt, took another. Pain faded a bit, but still there, took another; felt ok for 3 hours or so.
The same interaction with OC would be hurt, took one... waited a bit still hurt, took another, got wretchedly sick and just totally loaded feeling at the same time... none of what i am typing here should be taken as dosage advice, how to use, or anything. I am simply relating my experiences.
All this was for kidney stones; hydrocodone (Vicodin or Norco) would have been completely useless for that- by far the most painful experience I have ever had...
If anyone wants more info on Dilaudid / Hydromorphone here is the Wiiki link:

Hope this helps. I am glad that I don't really have to take oxy or dilaudid- they are highly addicting for me anyways, i stick to norcos for my back which generally does the trick so I can sleep at night.
