have you tried dexamphetamine? Do you know how it compares with Ritalin? I've had both, but less Ritalin (once, many yrs ago on a night out!) Dexy I also use to party with, on more occasions, but say 5 or 6times. (a frieid was prescribed it) -'I'm not proud of that by the way! I as wondering if it would be good though for weight loss. Need to shed a few (4) kilos and didn't like duromine way-back. I would rather something pharmaceutical than generated in a lab, such as speed. Dieting, well....lol

I meant dexy I 'used to' party with, not for say 6 yrs now.. I just remember it was not much hassle, little come-down, decreased appetite & increased housecleaning!![]()

If I had alot of stuff I really needed to get done which one would be better? I find I have so much to do and not enough energy/drive to get everything done in the day sometimes. Or is this not the right sort of med for that?

It's really a matter of personal preference.
It really depends upon what agrees with you better.
I would say adderall is much better. It lasts longer, and for me at least is much smoother than ritalin and is anxiety free. Someone else may find just the opposite.
Getting adderall XR or Concerta ( extended release ritalin ) really helps keep things nice and smooth, it feels very natural, with no harsh comedowns. It all happens very slowly.
~peace~
methylphenidate its less edgy and neurotoxic but has a short life and the comedown is worse than dextroamphetamine, ritalin are more easy to obtain though
In the end, it's all up to personal preference. I've tried adderall, ritalin, concerta, but nothing compares to the D-isomer versions of each drug (dextroamphetamine, and dexmethylphenidate). They are just so much cleaner, can sleep after, less jitters, etc.

This is a question that is quite heavily discussed over the internet and the above replies are correct when they say that it is a matter of personal preference.
The majority of feedback you will find on the internet will lead you to believe that Adderall is superior to Ritalin. For me, I find the contrary to be true in regards to selecting a better nootropic for concentration.
Adderall makes me feel kind of 'boxed-in' and sleepy, which is unusual considering it is a mix of amph salts while Ritalin provides me with a burst of enthusiasm for around 20 minutes and then a calm focused reposed for the following 3 hours.
There are comedowns with both medications and the jittery side-effects can be subdued with a small amount of a CNS depressant (I have tried many and prefer Nitrazepam). For me the synergy of the two medications is a wonderful stack - I am no doctor so in reading the following please don't take it as advice on how to dose:
This is my nootropic routine.
5mg - Nitrazepam
Wait 1 hour (so the initial stage of euphoria subsides)
20mg - Ritalin
3-4 hours
20mg - Ritalin
3-4 hours
10mg - Ritaln
2-3 hours
10mg Nitrazepam
I eat before I take the Ritalin (as much as I possibly can) because no medicine will do any good unless the body has the food it needs to concentrate on the task at hand.
Also keep in mind that no medicine is a magic bullet that will make you study. ADD medication will help you remain focused on one topic for a long period of time but whether or not that topic is productive or not is irrelevant.
Also benzodiazapines are addictive, please keep this in mind before considering to add them to your medication régime.
Regards,
Sunny.

Why on earth would anyone want to discuss methylphenidate and amphetamines in the epilepsy section of this forum?

D-amphetamine is better for all I know.
But since only appetite-inhibittor amphetamines are available where I live, i have to stick with Ritalin.
You should really try the options you have if you can so you can make a better decision.
I am on Adderall and have tried Ritalin. Ritalin is pretty short acting, so my doctor prefers Adderall.
But next visit, I am going to inquire about Vyvanse (sp?). I have a family member who uses this product and says it works the best.
See doc next week, will update if he let's me switch.
Happy Friday!

Dude, seriously? Just take Concerta, once daily in the morning, maybe a dose of 54 mg. It will make your life a hell of a lot easier, this sounds silly and like an incredible waste of time.
And to answer the question in general, Concerta is an excellent medication and is superior to both Ritalin and Adderall. The only downside is the cost.

I didn't want to switch to the long-acting MPH because the medication makes me very anti-social. If I use the regular Ritalin it allows me to time my dosages so I can still socialise during the day when the time calls for it.
I believe the cost is the same in my country so this isn't an issue.
The benzo makes me feel 'normal' again after a long days work and re-stimulates my appetite.
Note: I am aware that this thread is in the wrong category, maybe the Mods would consider moving it?![]()
Concerta and Ritalin contain the same active ingredient, Methylphenidate. I have tried both and couldn't detect any difference. Ritalin has an extended release formula now. Ritalin ER

^ Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I believe Concerta is essentially just longer-acting Adderall that has less potential for abuse. Just like Xanax XR is to Xanax.

Concerta is an ER formulation of methylphenidate (Ritalin) not Adderall.
