Default Prednisone and aspirin for dog

Our dog regularly takes aspirin to help with his hip/back problems. He has just been prescribed Prednisone for his serious allergies (other medications were first tried). Can these two drugs be taken together? Or should he just be taking the Prednisone?
The vet is the one who told us to put him on the aspirin. He does know about it as it's in my dog's chart.

You need to consult with your vet on this, but I know that when I switched my dog from prednisone (steroid) to Metacam (an NSAID, like aspirin), my vet wanted her completely off the steriod before starting the NSAID.

This is indeed a question for your vet - however Pred. is an anti inflammatory, and should give relief for his other problems as well as for the allergies. And I'd not be giving a dog aspirin, long term, in any case.

Ask your vet - is he even aware you have him on aspirin?
