Do hydrocortisone pills work for a flea allergy
My German shepherd is allergic to fleas. We give him flea medicine and also a monthly flea pill and monthly shot, but he still itches even if there's only one flea on him. He bites at the same spot on his back (near his tail) until the hair has started coming out.

So, I was wondering if anyone who also has a dog with flea allergies has tried hydrocortisone tablets? Did they help?

I've also thought about giving him prednisone, but that would only be a temporary fix, and there are way too many side effects with continued use of it.
Yep, I've tried Benadryl too. It didn't work.
I have been to the vet. He's the one who said it was a flea allergy. There's no need for the rudeness.

And I work in a pharmacy. Obviously I would get the prescription for the medicine from the vet and then fill it. I don't just have pills lying around my house.

Prednisone can work, and is only used as a short-term treatment while the fleas are dealt with. Any dog with flea allergies is going to go nuts from a single bite.

Why won't you ask your vet these questions? They're the ones who will be supplying you with the medication (I HOPE) and obviously they're not going to give your dog anything inappropriate.

What flea meds are you using? If they're not from a vet, they're not going to be working. You need Frontline Plus, or perhaps Revolution, Advocate or Advantage with a Program tablets regularly, and regular spraying of your house and furniture (again, don't use anything from a pet store).

Address this question to a vet, don't trust advice from strangers over the internet.

Try out those folks called VETS.
Do not give your dog preds. unless the vet gives it to you. Steroids are terrible for dogs and should be given only as a last result and only in the right dosage. Weight gain, liver problems, are only a few side effects, if given wrong they can even cause excessive itching
You can't even be positive it IS a flea allergy it could be something else

Give him a soothing bath in oatmeal dog shampoo or mellaluca oil shampoo.

Step away from your medicine cabinet and call the vet
