    Default Prednisolone for Insect Bites?

When we moved down here, one of my dogs was allergic to everything. Lost his hair in clumps, had oozing festering sores, and got forbid if he got into a fire ant hill. He's been on the the Pred for a couple months now, down to every other day, and doing much better (almost back to 80%).

Well, now, guess who went and got into the fire ants today? I'm badly allergic to wasps, etc., and keep epinephrine in the fridge for such an occasion, but this didn't seem to warrant such a treatment. (FWIW, the shot makes me feel sick and hung over for a day or so, so I avoid the sting, or the shot).

Anyway, I got bitten badly on my right ankle, a couple times on my left, but what I didn't notice until later was that I have two bites on my right index finger that are making it almost impossible to bend, and one on the web of my left hand that is rather uncomfortable. I did the whole home remedy thing as soon as I got back into the house (my bad for waiting a couple hours), with limes, and that helped the ankles a lot. I've been putting hydrocortisone now, and it's not helping much, but big deal, I can handle swollen ankles, I've been pregnant.

But my finger and hand, omg, what to do? I tried the lime, then peroxide, everything I knew to do. I've put the hydrocortisone, but that was a joke. Do you think that the prednisolone would work for me?

I figure I'd dose it about like we did for O'ho (the dog), as we're about the same size.

Any ideas? Help on dosing? Other ways to stop the itching? The swelling? Oozing?

    Heeeeeelp!!!!!

@HHMuse two pieces of advice. first is this the same dose predisolone given to humans as the one you have for your dog? Secondly, it depends on the cause of the inflammation in your finger...in other words is it swollen purely due to allergic inflammation or is it now infected? if it is changing colors or oozing you need to see a Physician as you do not want the infection to spread throughout the blood stream. In the meantime anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen(non-steroidal) should be of some benefit, and to answer your question regarding the predisolone, yes it does reduce inflammation as it is a steroid anti-inflammatory, be careful about taking steroid medications without supervision of your physician.
just curious is it prednisone, or prednisolone as these are two different steroid anti-inflammatory drugs

Benedryl is also a great choice and can be taken in doses of 50mg and can be taken as directed until inflammation is gone.
it worked for my dog very well

as she is very allergic to bee stings
