Well, any corticosteroid when used in the long term will produce the cushingoid body habitus, associated with a "moon face," the fat pockets simply refer to the redistribution of fat to the upper body, and furthermore the patient can expect to develop abdominal striae. The advantage is that prednisone is an extremely useful medication for innumerable indications, so if the physician deems it appropriate, it suggest's that this will benefit his/her patient. Alternate day dosing has been regarded as a prefered method of administration for certain indications, but this is best left to the discretion of the prescribing physcian.
