My son has Colitis and is currently on Azathioprine,Prednisolone Asacol,Buscapan, and Adcal to little effect.?
I am worried as although the medications have helped with the visits to the loo he is still passing loose stools. Has anyone else had experience of these drugs in the treatment of Colitis and how did you get on? He has been on the Azathioprine for 5 weeks so far.
I am also a Registered Nurse so understand the importance of the situation. My son see the consultant regularly and the treatments have worked slightly. I am just wondering about others who have been through these treatments.
With respect A.V.R my sons condition is NOT psychosomatic..I was with him when he had his colonoscopy and saw the results as they carried out the procedure.

This maybe relevant or it could be just a load of useless information but I`m an IBS sufferer and I`ve found porridge has helped no end. I have Scotts porage oats made with soya milk as I`ve cut out the dairy as well and since I`ve been having this for breakfast every day my IBS has all but cleared up. I realise they`re 2 different ailments but anything`s worth a try?

I went through a messy investigation for this condition.
Was prescribed various things. Nothing helped much.
I had to take Psyllium husk supplement everyday to regulate stools.

I had a discussion with some very senior physician friends, who told me that nothing much works and most of it can be psychosomatic.

I have chucked the lot, do not use any medication and feel much better.

How awful for your Son as i have seen many with colitis. It is painful and exhausting.
If you think these medications are not working then please take him back to the GP sooner rather than later.
