Metformin is used to be able to "help" cells metabolize sugar in the blood, thus decreasing its levels together with insulin levels. With a lowering of insulin levels, it also lowers testosterone production, increasing the chances of conception. It is often prescribed to treat women with PCOS and for people with type 2 diabetes.
Unfortunately, if you are trying to conceive, even with taking Metformin, chances are still not that good. Some are given other medications to increase those chances, but still, it all depends on how the body responds to the medication and other factors. Since it is just less than a year since you started Metformin, don't lose hope. You may want to visit your doctor again to check on your dosage as well as ask other alternatives to take to help conceive.
Hope this helps.
