Metformin Users and Alcohol

today is my 21st birtthday. and im going to be going out tonight with friends. im on metformin 500mg twice a day. I dont have diabetis though. and i havent taken it in the last 5 days.. will i be okay to drink tonight?

I wonder for what condition you are taking Metformin for. It is often given to diabetics as well as women trying to conceive.

Have you had any side effects or felt anything out of the ordinary for not taking it for 5 days? Since it is used to regulate blood glucose levels, you may find yourself hyperglycemic if you fail to take it religiously, plus the fact your are drinking a lot of alcohol.

Also, taking too much alcohol with metformin may lead to a fatal case of lactic acidosis. Even if you have not taken it for 5 days. If you still want to take alcohol, do it in moderation, just to be able to avoid lactic acidosis.
