Which one is better? Metformin or Clomid ...

I have PCOS and if i go to the doctors he may tell me to take one of these. Which is better and what is your experience? Thanks alot girlies ......

metformin is a very common drug, it is used to help regulate insulin. PCOS affects how you body deals with insulin, you may or may not have diabetes if they prescribe it for you although it is considered a diabetic drug. it will help regulate your blood sugars, help you loose weight, which in turn helps you ovulate.

clomid simply stimulates egg production.

i was given clomid for two series of attempts (6 months each) with no luck, although my friend who also has PCOS got pregnant with twins on her second month on it.

my doctor later gave me metformin and and after a year and loosing 10 lbs we got pregnant spontaneously (we had been trying for 6.5 years in total but most people don't take so long.)

they may give you both, i've heard good things about the combo. but it really depends on what is hindering conception.

take both as i did and i fell pregnant is now 14 weeks 3days

I took both. The metaformin is for the insulin resistance caused by the PCOS and the Clomid is to actually stimulate ovulation and egg production. They're completely different drugs that do 2 completely different things. So I don't know. My Dr put me on both.

I have PCOS too, and my doc said the same thing to me. Without knowing if you have the Diabetes part of PCOS will kinda hinder my advice to you.


Metformin is something used for Insulin Resistance. Helps regulate your blood sugars and it'll help you lose weight, which will ultimately bring your period back...thus ovulation.

Clomid is just a tool for ovulation.

My doc prescribed me Clomid for ovulation...
And I was on Prometrium to get my period back, yet I didn't take to that so now I'm on Provera.

All in all it depends on your severity of PCOS and which will benefit you in the long run.
