Anyone know about metformin & TTC?!
I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor decided to put me on metformin. (we ARE Trying to conceive) Has anyone had any success with metformin? Cause I took clomid in the past (but they didn't realize I had PCOS, until now) and it didn't work at all actually. So I want to know if we are wasting our time or metformin really does help you get pregnant!! Anything would be nice. I really don't know a lot about this pill. (my doctor explained it to me, but I had a spinal tap like 2 days before and ended up needing a blood patch to fix the whole in my spine. So it was kinda hard to focus).

Oh he did say I am part of that 10-15% of people with PCOS that aren't overweight. (I am actually almost underweight) So I know it isn't to help me lose weight..

Life Is Good is an unknown quantity at this point
Okay...they make you take metformin for many reasons. However, from what I know, it is in correlation to the diabetic symptoms that are associated with PCOS. Also, this will regulate your blood sugars, making it easier to concieve in theory.

I have not had to have this happen with me yet, nor do I know anyone who took it. I just have a medical background, and know a little here and there about it lol.

How much are you on??

me and my husband have one child he is now 3. We have been ttc for about a year now. I have always had an eating disorder but It got really really bad after I had my son. So bad I was hospitalized and I did not have a period for a year. When I did start having periods again I was not ovulating. The doc put me on clomid but it alone didn't do a thing for me. He then put me on both clomid and metformin and that got me to ovulating. I am now ovulating on my own w/o any meds. The thing about metformin is that you can not skip any meals or it will lower your blood sugar and make you feel sick. A good idea would be to keep a candy bar or regular soda with you just in case this happens. I still haven't had any luck on getting pregnant though. good luck and lots of baby dust to you

Wow Your Brilliant is on a distinguished road
I have PCOS and I"m on Metformin (1000mg per day).

What is your dosage?

I am thin and have PCOS (like you!).

Without Metformin I have very rare periods and they are super heavy and last ages.

On Metformin I am now having normal natural periods and I"m ovulating! I don't ovulate without the metformin.

I am hoping to conceive in the next few months...if I don't conceive on Met, I will take Met and Clomid. Met is a miracle drug for PCOS women.

It works by fixing up the insulin resistance problem that all PCOS women have (to some degree).

So, it's great that you are on it! MOST women get normal periods on Metformin and MANY Ovulate!

Best of luck to you : )

Metformin is indeed good in controlling the sugar level in ur body. I too had PCOS and struggled a lot to get pregnant. I would suggest do exercise to burn of that PCOS and keep ur body healthy. Then eat healthy foods like fruits and veggies. Since ur underweight, its not necessary that u have to eat a lot. just keep within the limits and exercising will definitely make u lose all that PCOS. If i can be then definitely u can All the best dear.
