To me, this sounds more like you are eating too much sugar or other carbohydrates at one time, rather than a medication problem. Try adjusting your diet to include more lean protein, which will metabolize into carbohydrates much slower than foods that start out as carbs in the first place. For instance, having some turkey and low fat cheese as a snack will give you only a slight rise in blood glucose, whereas having a sugary snack will cause your blood sugar to jump up in a matter of minutes, and then crash. If you want something with a lot of carbs, make sure that you eat some protein with it so that you won't have a low.

Sometimes, even with taking medications, you also have to help your body. Taking medications does not mean that you can do whatever you want.

Metformin is a medication that makes your cells sensitive to insulin, thus lowering sugar levels in the blood. However, if there is no change in lifestyle or eating habits, it cannot work as efficiently.

And no, the body cannot store metformin. If you are having erratic blood sugar levels, then you may need to monitor your blood sugar, making sure that it does not go too high or low. A good thing about metformin is that it does not cause hypoglycemia.

Hope this helps.
