i have a question about metformin
okay, so im seventeen and was diagnosed with diabetes almost three weeks ago.
i was given metformin to take to control it.
the first week i was given 500 mg and warned of all of the side effects. the only one i felt was one my doctor did not mention: extreme fatigue. i was relatively okay, i just wanted to sleep the whole time i was on it.
the next week i was bumped up to 1000mg. the tiredness is gone now. my ownly symptom was to get violently ill every time i ate. i cant even think about food because i get so sick so often after eating that i get sick just thinking about eating. because of this, ive lost 12 pounds in five days. im serious, its that bad.
this coming tuesday will be three weeks, and i will reach my final dosage which i am to remain on for a year: 1500mg. the tiredness i recieved at 500mg faded when i went to 1000, so my question is will the illness go away at 1500, or will it get worse?

It's probably your body trying to adjust to normal sugr levels. When I was diagnosed I was tired and worn out for a month or so. Also my eyes were blurry for a little while. It shouldn't get worse. If it does give your doctor a call...there are other options if it effects your life badly like that. The weight loss would probably be a symtpom of the diabetes (before diagnosis) as your body doesn't receive energy (from the food you eat) properly due to the lack of insulin/poor uptake of insulin. If the weight loss continues then you should see your doctor straight away because it may mean that your sugar levels aren't very good and may need some adjusting with different medication. You may also just be having bad side effects in which you need to get on a different medication.
Hope it all works out for you!
