That's almost correct. If metformin works, you shouldn't need provera again - though it may not work that quickly for everyone (sometimes can take couple of months). Your cycle, however, won't be perfectly regular at first i.e. don't expect period month.
After provera reset cycle for my wife, she was on metformin and first few cycles were 40-45 days, but then over few months got down to 35 days or less (and ovulating more frequently). Only took provera once at the beginning - didn't need to take again. She was also careful about her diet as well (less glycemic carbs) and was taking 500x2 (which is a relatively low dose).
Of course, if your cycle gets stuck for 50+ days or longer (AND you are confirmed not pregnant), then doesn't hurt to take provera to reset it again. But make absolutely sure not pregnant as provera can induce period i.e. potential miscarriage. So try avoid taking provera again unless absolutely unnecessary.
Wife got pregnant twice in a year (one miscarriage) after starting metformin. This was after 2.5 yrs of trying without knowing about PCOS. Metformin was the miracle drug for us.
Good luck
