My doctor prescribed me clarithromycin, glimepiride and prevacid for an H-pylori infection. The glimepiride says it is an antidiabetic pill. Why would I be prescribed this for H-pylori? I was thinking maybe the other meds may spike blood sugar and that is why?
Most probably the Glimepiride is not for H-pylori infection. Do you have a history of diabetes or high blood sugar? Better clarify this with your doctor ASAP. Usually the treatment regimen consists of 2 antibiotics (in your case it should have been clarithromycin plus another antibiotic) and a proton pump inhibitor like Prevacid. Meanwhile, do not take the Glimepiride until you talk to your doctor (which should be ASAP).
