Hi Jenny,
DiaBeta is a anti diabetic drug (as you probably know) given to patients with type 2 diabetes. With people with type 2 diabetes, there is a lack of insulin, either because there is low production or it is not being used properly. DiaBeta, a sulfonylurea which acts to stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin, will try to correct the deficiency.
This is often used for people who are that stage of diabetes wherein they do not yet need insulin to control it. On its effectiveness, it will depend on how the body takes it. For some, it may be effective, and for others, not. You can try to observe for a while on its effectiveness. If you see positive results, then DiaBeta is effective for your grandfather. However, if there is no visible result seen, then you may want to ask for another drug.
Hope this helps.
