Can I conceive with PCOS, taking metformin & Clomid?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in July and had irregular periods. I was put on metformin. I couldn't get pregnant. Now I'm on my first round of clomid together with metformin.Had clomid from 2nd to 6th Dec. . We are asked to have sex alternatively from 10th day to 20th day.How do i know when i ovulate? and what are the chances of getting pregnant? And i'm affected with a cold now. Is it safe to have sex now? Plz help me.

My doctor said I might have PCOS, so take this with a grain of salt, because it wasn't an official diagnosis.

I didn't get any periods on my own (required hormones) for ten months before they prescribed Clomid. I took it on days 3-7 of my cycle and was told to have sex on days 11-17--we actually had sex 9-20. Days 10-16, we used OPKs (ovulation predictor kits), but all were negative. On day 18 and 19, I had cervical mucus that indicated ovulation. I got pregnant on that first try with Clomid. You can buy some OPKs and use them daily if you want to know the exact day, but sometimes they miss your hormone surge, so they might not work. Usually, the doctor will call you in for a blood test on a certain date after you were instructed to have sex and test your hormone levels to see if you ovulated. They were able to tell I did ovulate. If you didn't, they will change your dosage for the Clomid. I wouldn't worry about having sex with a cold; it's never bothered me any, other than sometimes not being in the mood. Hope the info helps.
