Dr prescribed Metformin to help me conceive. Any experiences?

My hubby and I have been TTC for almost a year. We are both young, healthy and the doctor couldn't find out why it was to hard for us to get pregnant. About 2 months ago, my periods stopped, for no real reason. So the doctor ordered an ultrasound and found out that I have PCOS (poly cystic ovary syndrome), which is no big deal, since the cysts would eventually go away. But the doctor did prescribe Metformin to get me to ovulate. It's normally a diabetes medication, but apparently it can help fertility as well.

She got me a 3 month supply and said if I wasn't pregnant by the end of that, she would perscribe Clomid. She didn't want to go that far yet because apparently Clomid can have a very serious side effects.

So Ladies, have you had any experience with these drugs?
