Colon cleansers are generally bunk. I don't know where their pictures come from on most of the sites that sell them, showing large amounts of gunk pushed out of the intestine, but it's simply not there.
How do I know? I just finished gross anatomy. After six months of working with 50 cadavers, and analyzing all 50 studying for the exam, I never saw any of this "buildup". Unlike a cosmetic embalming, where the intestines are often cleansed, ours were not. Fecal matter in the intestine? Sure. 30 pounds of black gunk, like one site showed? No. Nothing of the sort, and we had cadavers who had experienced almost every major GI disease.
Diet, exercise, persistence. Those will work more than any colon cleanser.
