Wow, if they can't even do a decent knock-off of the packaging graphics, no telling what crap is on the inside. Scary!

Hey John, I missed something. Are you an owner of an online pharmacy? What are the products you're selling?

  9. Man, it sure does pay to read this board. Those differences are slight and would rarely be noticeable to the untrained eye. I would imagine that this is a widespread problem as popular as these drugs are, and the main concern is that in addition to being fake they may actually have harmful ingredients in them. Best of luck!

Once again... a counterfeit drug *can* work. Counterfeit Cialis might actually contain the proper dose of tadalafil. It simply is not made by the owner of the trade name "Cialis".

I'm not at all meaning to justify or legitimize counterfeits, but am just trying to remind folks that the terminology does matter.

  12. is tadacip considered counterfeit?

No it's generic. It doesn't claim to be Cialis, it just has the same active ingredient (tadalafil) and works exactly the same without the brand name.

I think you're confusing the term counterfeit with generic equivalent.

A drug that contains the same amount of the active ingredient as the original yet is manufactured by a different drug company is called a generic. It's not called a counterfeit.

A counterfeit drug is one that is replicated in the exact image as a real one in order to deceive or defraud someone. You can also call it a fake drug, since couterfeit and fake are synonyms. It may very well indeed contain traces of the active ingredient, but it most certainly will not contain the same ingredients which would make it a generic equivalent.

You're an honorable member, but your above advice is very bad in my opinion.

Well we will have to disagree with one another then. I believe "counterfeit" and "fake" are not synonyms (outside of colloquial usage), although there may be instances where a fake is also a counterfeit, and vice versa.

I believe that "counterfeit" means it's attempting to deceive the buyer that it is a particular brand.

I believe "fake" means it is attempting to deceive the buyer that it has a particular chemical composition.

I once bought supposedly generic tadalafil. It did NOT claim that it was Cialis (nor any other brand name, such as Tadacip). Thus it was not a counterfeit. But neither did it contain the drug tadalafil. Thus it was a FAKE generic. The vendor subsequently sent me a replacement, which was branded as Tadacip, and which worked the same as my genuine Cialis, thus they were either the genuine generic brand Tadacip, or they were counterfeit Tadacip but with the correct dose of tadalafil (I wouldn't have any way of knowing, although someone reasonably pointed out that if you're going to make a counterfeit pill, you'll make it against the biggest brand name, not a generic brand).

There are photos here on pharmacyreviewer.com of other pills that are made and sold using the brand logos, shape, and imprint of Cialis, but which were not made by the owner of that brand, and those are counterfeits. If they had been tested, and contained the proper dose of tadalafil, then they were not fakes, except in the colloquial sense of the word. If they were tested and did not contain the proper dose of tadalafil, then they were both counterfeit AND fake.

I would agree that there is often looser usage of these terms, both in informal situations and in online discussions, but I believe there IS a real distinction.

PS: for those who argue that "fake" merely means no intent to deceive, I say it certainly does. The word you want, which does not imply deception, is "imitation".

"Fake", "Secretly Substituted Decaf.", and "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" all imply the intent to deceive.

Well I definitely respect your opinion, but talk about over analyzing word usage!

When speaking of pharmaceuticals, counterfeit and fake are 9.9 times out of 10 synonymous.

Counterfeit sunglasses I will buy. Counterfeit prescription medications I will not.

I would not advise anybody to buy counterfeit medications, regardless of whatever the interpretation of the word "counterfeit" may be...

I'm with you on that. I'd rather buy a generic than a counterfeit! After all, if they're trying to deceive me on the brand of the product, I don't have a lot of confidence in the rest of it.
