Viagra is the first commercially launched drug for erectile dysfunction. During that time, it was Pfizer who acquired the patent for sildenafil (generic of Viagra) that's why it very expensive. Once the patent expires (usually after 10-12 years), other pharmaceutical drugs can make their own brands of course cheaper than Viagra. Same goes with tadalafil (Cialis), the third impotence drug to be released in the market and said to be better than Viagra.

I think it all boils down to the marketing/advertising costs of the pharmaceutical companies. It costs alot of money to market the 3 -ED pills. I heard Pfizer just raised the price of Viagra another $1 per pill.

Have you heard about generic viagra? Generic viagra is not expensive at all.. and works same good if ordered from a good source.
But yes, the branded one is quite pricey and until Pfizer holds the patent for viagra nothing is gonna change it. Or you must travel to India hwere generic versions are sold in local pharmacies fully leagally as us patent laws do not have any power there.
