A friend of mine didn't snort it, but he took double his dose (600mg) and drank about 4 redbulls. I was at work with him when it happened. It was at a juice bottling plant and you have to duck under a lot of the equipment on the line. He went under one of the lines and had a seizure. He hit his head when he came back up and it really messed him up bad.

Still takes Wellbutrin but no longer drinks RedBulls.

I tried Wellbutrin by itself years ago, and it didn't really seem to do anythign for me, and I had no side effects. However, years later my doctor put me on a combination of Wellbutrin and Zoloft.

This cocktail turned out to give fantastic results with no real side effects. It gave me an incredible lift in mood and energy. I have since read that it is a combination that more and more doctors are using.

I don't know if it is for everyone, but it certainly worked for me

I have recently been put on this same cocktail, didn't seem to do much for me. So we added abilify and two months later of starting treatment I am not as depressed. I can never tell if anti depressants work or not.

The good thing about Wellbutrin is that it can be prescribed alongside an SSRI and give pretty good results since both your seratonin and dopamine levels will be higher.

I was taking Prozac and Wellbutrin at one point. Gave me pretty good energy.

Oh I believe it does have an effect. At an even lower dose than 200mg. I believe the high only lasts 15-20 minutes, but high it does get you. I've also read that snorting it makes your brain bleed. I guess for people in jail, that's not much of an important tidbit.

Interesting considering that most people who take it for depression are on 300 or 600mg I think. My doctor will not even consider putting me on Tramadol I think because of the same reason (abuse potential). BTW I will not be getting the name brand after all. My insurance says I need to pay the cost difference between generic and name brand which is $173. No way I can spend that kind of money on a monthly basis so I am really hoping the side effects of the Buproprion subside. If they don't I may just try and get a prescription for Tramadol from somebody like HSN. I know Tram works and several people have reported taking it long term for depression without many problems.

When I was prescribed to Wellbutrin I was taking only 400mg/day. 200 in the morning, 200 at night. This is how I know 200mg pills were getting snorted

I am currently on Zoloft 100 mg. I am not noticing any improvements. I am interested in seeing about adding wellbutrin. I need something to help give me some get up and go. I have been diagnosed with narcolepsy and depression recently and I am excited at having hope for improving. Have thought for a long time that I would never get back to any semblance of normal living.

I was placed on wellbutrin for a short while some years ago, but it made me feel quite agitated--I believe that if there is any indication of bipolar, it can induce hypomanic episode, in the same way SSRIs can.
I do hope you find this helpful !
    Thanks!

They will not give it to you if you have any tenancy towards mania or seizures. When I was on Zoloft it was not working for me either so the doctor just dropped it completely. Wellbutrin is often an adjunct but works independently as well. I had problems with agitation as well but after just over two weeks my mood improved significantly and I have not had much of a problem with side effects since; however, I still get headaches. At first they were horrible but now it often seems like I have a light hangover that never goes away. I am seeing the doctor again next week and I am really unsure of whether I want to continue with it or not. The mood elevation is decent and I am significantly more motivated but the hangover feeling is pretty annoying. BTW I do not drink any alcohol at all but I have heard from numerous people that if you do drink at all the side effects are much worse. On the other hand you can not rapidly decrease your consumption of alcohol while on it either due to the seizure risk.

Great medication IF you are norepinephrine deficient. It can cause irritability, agitation, and mania if you are manic.

I'm back on buproprion (from my friends at TPE) and once again it's having its beneficial effect. At first, when you start taking it, it really can make you buzzy and energized. But that (unfortunately, I guess) fades after a week or two. Nonetheless, I have never found any antidepressant that can pull me out of the hole like buproprion. It really seems to be qualitatively different from other stimulants, in that two weeks daily Adderall leaves me feeling like a wrung out dishrag, after two weeks buproprion is just hitting its stride. It seems to have a systemic threshold that it must build up to before maximum benefits just like the SSRIs. My morning routine is to take a 150 mg buproprion tablet and either 1/2 or a full Nodoz or other caffeine tablet (I usually sleep to the last minute and don't have time to make coffee before work). Sometimes that combination has me shaking like a chihuaha but it does make me sharp and in a hurry. I don't always take the caffeine and prefer real coffee (like most natural substances it has more than one active ingredient and is both smoother and more effective than Nodoz) when I have the time for it.

I took my buproprion this morning, and a 200mg JetAlert caffeine tablet. After getting to work I drank a couple of cups of coffee (I love coffee). By about 1 PM I had what crackheads call "peeking out the windows" paranoia and was shaking so bad that if I'd tried to sign my signature it would have looked like an EKG printout. That, I think, was more the caffeine than the buproprion. I'm a fairly talented artist--drawing, watercolor, acrylic--and didn't even start fooling with it until I was 34 years old. At the time I was in an, um, correctional facility and was getting blasted with 450 mg a day of buproprion and I limited myself to one cup of coffee a day. The buproprion was wonderful at lifting my mood and motivating me to do more than to sulk and feel sorry for myself. Sure, it gave me the shakes. I shook like a dog trying to crap a peach pit. But when I painted, especially finely detailed stuff, my hands were steady as a rock. I don't understand it. I knew another guy in there--an ex-priest who was a skilled calligrapher and artist--who had mild Parkinson's and he shook like a leaf in January too. But his hands were always steady with the brush or pen. Weird. I have a degree in the "wet" side of psychology (the physiological side) so I ought to be able to figure it out. Haven't devoted any brainpower to it so far.

*This post was auto-merged. The following text was added 22 minutes after the last post:*

This is way off-thread but I just thought I'd mention it since someone else did and I almost killed my stupid self this way. If you are taking tramadol/Ultram and an SSRI like Prozac or Paxil at the same time (and not under a doctor's supervision), you're handing yourself a gilt-edged invitation to a grand mal seizure.

I had mine just a few minutes after finishing a giant meal of chicken breast and a mound of brown rice. I came to my senses some unknown time after the event with the end of my tongue bitten raw and a muscle between my shoulderblades either torn or strained (that bothered me for months afterwards). Never mind that a grand mal (serious, big time) seizure can kill you all by itself, there's also the fact that I could have vomited and asphyxiated on that big ole meal I'd just gorged myself with. Worse yet, what if I'd been behind the wheel of a car, with my kid in the back seat?

In clinical dosages, the combination of Ultram and SSRIs are probably safe if taken together. But like many people I was using Ultram as opiate replacement to keep me from going on the street to buy heroin. Pretty godd*mn effective in that role, but I was taking 15-25 tablets a day along with Paxil OD and well, I'm just glad I'm not dead. I, a person who reads the PDR for entertainment, should have at least researched that little issue. But I didn't and it could have killed me. Or my kid or whoever was in that car I hit while spasming like an epileptic. It still scares me to think about it.

I did what any responsible, sensible person would do: I sh!tcanned the Paxil and kept up the Ultram. In my world, it's far safer to be a little depressed but not forging presciptions or scoring heroin on the street than the other way around. I've been using Ultram for that for years and think it's a big part of why I've stayed out of jail. And I don't take SSRIs. Though, in my experience, they do work quite well. But subtly. In the aforementioned correctional facility I also took Paxil daily. One day I decided I didn't need it and just arbitrarily quit taking it. Result? I didn't hardly speak to anyone for a month. Very dark. Very antisocial. When someone asked me why I wouldn't speak to someone I replied "If a man opens his mouth and doesn't have something important to say, he's just polluting the air." Resumed the Paxil and and a week or two later everything was okay. SSRIs really do work, just don't take them along with high doses of tramadol. Only thing I don't like about both tramadol and SSRIs is that weiner no workie. But that's what God made Cialis for.

I tried Wellbutrin...once. I take 20mg Prozac every other day - very helpful with my anxiety. But it kinda strips away the sexy, if you know what I mean. So I heard that adding Wellbutrin can counteract the SSRI sex-fizzle and add a little zip to my day - sounded great! So I added Wellbutrin 75mg...took one on a non-Prozac morning. Went to work and had a strange sort of head-zing. But nothing major. So I went ahead and had my morning coffee...BAD IDEA.

That was a miserable day. I was soooo up, and I am NOT a amphet-y person. I babbled, I dashed around the office, I called my husband and babbled at him while I was doing squats and lunges in the living room (my theory was I might be able to "burn it out of my system - yeah, I wasn't thinking clearly)...he laughs about it but it was horrible to me. I had a headache that was indescribable!!

Oddly, I went to bed, all wide eyed and shaky, and then to my surprise fell asleep and slept through the night. The next day, I felt wonderful.

I haven't tried that again, but based on how great I felt the next day - happy, smiley content, focused - I am considering pulling that bottle of blue pills out and trying it again. Maybe 1/2 the dose??? I hear it can have a rough startup, but that was ridiculous!

You can't cut the pills. All Wellbutrin pills are specifically designed to release in to your system over time. If you cut them the release mechanism will not work probably and it will put you at a higher risk of seizure - also the side effects will probably be worse not better. The side effects generally diminish over time but I still feel like I have a light hangover almost all the time.

I am trying to find something else that works for me but I want to stay on it until I do because even the hangover feeling is better then dealing with my depression.

Wow man that's interesting. My doc put me on brand Wellbutrin, which my insurance didn't cover (at that time) in addition to the xanax he already had me on. He said that in this ONE drug, he didn't believe in generics. $180.00/mo. if I'm not mistaken. This is a few years back. Work changed insurance companies and the new one picked up the tab (minus $10.00 co-pay) but the doc soon weaned me off.

I was on wdlbutrin a few years ago and it helped me a lot. Then stupid me took some of my husband's ultram, (not knowing you should't take the two together), and had a seizure at work. Now all of my medical files say I'm alergic to it because I didn't tell my doctor that I had taken ultram with it. I found that it helped my depression a lot.

I do not know about abusing this drug, but I take it twice a day 300mg generic Wellbutrin. This drug takes a couples weeks, I was told in order to get the full affect.
It has helped me with the blues, I had been going thru. Relocation from FL to a small state in the south. I mean small town, too. Be careful if taking this medication, as you are suppossed to come off it slowly. Good Luck!
